The selection / Replacement specification
Leaded-look & decorative window replacement
The diamond-pane rhythm is a defining Tudor detail. For replacement windows, compare authentic leaded panels, applied lead patterns and divided-light options, alongside glass texture, safety requirements and the construction of the complete unit.

The specification
What to consider
- Quarry proportions and lead or grille widths should relate to the whole elevation, not be selected in isolation.
- Authentic leaded glass, applied lead and simulated divided lights are different constructions with different visual effects.
- Safety glazing and insulated-glass compatibility depend on the opening and the selected manufacturer’s system.

A considered specification.
Specify glass construction, diamond or divided-light patterns, texture and safety requirements. Decorative appearance and insulated-glass performance are separate specification choices.

Questions
Questions owners ask
Can replacement windows have a diamond-pane pattern?
A diamond pattern can be specified where the chosen window system supports it. Compare the glass construction, pattern dimensions and samples before ordering.
Will decorative glazing look exactly like historic glass?
Not automatically. Texture, reflection, lead width and the depth of the pattern differ between products. Review samples and elevations rather than relying on a product name alone.
Can a decorative pattern be matched from an existing window?
Yes. We record the quarry count, lead width and pane proportion of the existing panels, then specify the new pattern to the same layout.
Is real lead used, or applied lead?
Both are available. True leaded panels can be set within insulated glass, while applied cames cost less; the proposal states exactly which construction is being supplied.
