The selection / Replacement specification
Energy-conscious window replacement
Comfort starts with the complete window and the way it meets the wall. Compare insulated glazing, low-e coatings, thermal breaks where applicable, weatherseals and published whole-window ratings alongside installation details suited to your house.

The specification
What to consider
- Whole-window U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient describe different parts of the performance specification.
- Air infiltration, glazing construction and frame design should be compared for the specific unit proposed.
- Perimeter insulation, flashing and sill drainage influence the installed result and must be included in the scope.
Materials & methods
The new assembly.
A considered specification.
Review whole-window U-factor, solar heat gain coefficient and air-infiltration data where available. Thermal breaks, flashing, anchorage and perimeter insulation belong in the same discussion.

Questions
Questions owners ask
Does double glazing guarantee a warmer room?
No universal result can be promised. Frame construction, air leakage, installation and the rest of the building matter. Compare documented whole-window ratings for the product proposed.
Will replacement windows eliminate condensation?
Not in every condition. Indoor humidity, ventilation, outdoor temperature and surface temperatures all contribute. Discuss these alongside glazing and frame options.
What is measured for an energy-conscious specification?
Opening sizes, frame depth, existing air leakage points and orientation. Glass, seals and installation details are then specified together rather than glass alone.
Will new windows lower my energy bills?
Results depend on the house, the heating system and how it is used, so we do not promise savings. We give you the published whole-window ratings for the exact product.
