The specification / What matters
Material honesty. Measured detail.
01Grouped openings
Preserve the relationship between paired or grouped windows, structural mullions and surrounding timber. Measure the group, not only each sash.
02Upper-light patterns
Some houses use small panes above larger clear lights. Record the existing arrangement rather than applying a standard grille to every opening.
03Wood profiles & finish
Compare sash sections, interior mouldings and finish samples alongside the existing joinery. Confirm species, exterior protection and care requirements for the selected product.

Questions / Before you decide
A clearer choice.
Can the upper and lower lights have different patterns?
Custom arrangements may be available. Provide photographs and measured elevations so the supplier can confirm the exact divided-light construction.
Should replacement windows match the interior woodwork?
They should be considered together. Review visible frame depths, trim junctions, species and finish samples before agreeing the installation scope.
Historic-property review requirements depend on the property and proposed scope. Confirm them with the relevant local authority.
